Xi, Trump Plan Attending APEC Summit in South Korea
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump are anticipated to travel to South Korea next month for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, officials reported on Wednesday.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, speaking ahead of his inaugural trip to Beijing, mentioned that he intends to talk about Xi’s visit with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
"From what I understand, President Xi will visit South Korea for the APEC summit," he stated.
"We will have detailed discussions in relation to the matter," according to a news agency.
In the previous month, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung sent a personal letter to Xi, delivered by a special envoy, inviting the Chinese leader to attend the summit in South Korea.
The two-day APEC summit is scheduled to take place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 in Gyeongju, a southeastern city in South Korea.
Cho’s journey to Beijing marks his first official visit to China since the beginning of the Lee administration in early June.
During the two-day trip, Cho is expected to engage in talks with Chinese officials regarding trade ties and regional collaboration.
“We will discuss ways to further deepen our cooperation and reduce tensions in Northeast Asia,” he added.
China and South Korea formally established diplomatic relations in August 1992, and trade between the two nations reached $267.6 billion in 2024.
