Villavicencio withdraws visa in solidarity with Petro
Villavicencio stated that "this is an act of dignity in the face of the unacceptable decision to revoke the visa of the President of Colombia," he also mentioned "our sovereignty does not bow down. Colombia must be respected."
Villavicencio recognized that ties with the US were "tense" following the US State Department announcement on Friday that it would withdraw Petro's visa because of his "incendiary actions" throughout a pro-Palestinian rally in NY.
The State Department posted on X platform: "earlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence."
During the UN General Assembly proceedings in New York, Petro spoke to a group of protesters and informing American soldiers, "disobey the orders of Trump!"
He stated that "I ask all soldiers in the United States army not to point their rifles at humanity. Disobey Trump’s order! Obey the order of humanity!”
