Russia Posts Drop in 2025 New Car Sales

(MENAFN) New car sales in Russia plunged 19% in 2025 compared with the previous year, though locally manufactured vehicles gained ground, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reported Monday.

According to figures published on the ministry’s website, nationwide sales of new vehicles (up to three years old) totaled 1,495,761 units, down sharply from 1,835,907 units in 2024.

Domestic automakers held firm, selling more than 831,200 vehicles, a modest 0.2% increase year-on-year. In contrast, imported models collapsed, tumbling 34% to roughly 664,500 units.

Segment data showed passenger cars remained dominant, with 1,316,789 units sold, a 15% decline from 2024. Light commercial vehicles dropped 24%, truck sales plunged 53%, and bus sales slid 31%.
